Tough loss for Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl yesterday. It must have felt wretched especially since most people were expecting him and his team to win. As a spectator, from the safety of my home, I felt sympathy for him and also knew he has plenty of time to accomplish many more great things in his beloved football career.
The media had billed this game as the King vs. the Prince. Tom Brady has the experience, Mahomes is the new and shiny thing that humans have a tendency to gravitate to. But it was Brady, with his many years of experience, who won the game. No surprise that Brady is an excellent leader and, in the post-game questions, he quickly credited his entire team for all their excellent work. He is, clearly, a well-trained spokesperson for any team that he is on.
At the end of the game, which is one of my favorite parts because you can see all the raw emotions surface on these usually tough-as-nails football players, Mahomes went up to Brady and gave him a hug of sorts. The CBS microphones caught Mahomes saying “You are awesome” to Brady. Good sportsmanship, for sure, but also a good reminder that these young players, like in any field of work, have very talented and experienced role models leading the way for them.
Experience does matter.
