Zoos and aquariums have long been popular destinations for families and animal lovers alike. They offer an opportunity to see animals up close, learn about their behavior and habitat, and contribute to conservation efforts. However, in recent years, there has been growing criticism of these institutions, with many arguing that they are outdated and cruel. In this blog post, we will explore why zoos and aquariums are becoming increasingly controversial and why it is cruel for animals to be caged up instead of in their natural environments. Confessions of a New Vegetarian
Almost a year and a half ago, I stopped eating cows, pigs and chickens. There I said it. It is not socially correct to use those terms instead of beef, pork and, well, chicken, but that is what I spent the entire previous part of my life eating. I can’t be self-righteous about my new change because I ate a hefty amount of those animals in my past. Probably several hundreds of animals if one were counting. [ Read More ]

Ocean Conferences in 2020
I have always loved oceans. They represent freedom, wild beauty, places beyond. They are also critical to humans in countless ways. As some of you know, I worked in ocean conservation for two years a few years back. It was eye-opening and I am grateful for all the people who shared their knowledge of the oceans with me. I also like technology and have worked in that industry for more than 25 years. So, of course, ocean technology companies have always been of interest, especially ones trying to help sustain our oceans. [ Read More ]
May the Queen Conch Live On
Conch farms in Turks and Caicos. Conch fritters, and conch in numerous other culinary forms, can be bought at almost every restaurant in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Yet they are endangered. How can this be? I recently visited these islands and their stunningly gorgeous beaches to see firsthand what was happening with the coral reefs there. I had been there 10-15 years ago on a SCUBA diving trip and was interested in seeing if the reefs were surviving climate change, tourist bumping and the notorious lionfish infestation of the Caribbean. Instead I stumbled on the queen conch issue. [ Read More ]
